Roman Shade Questions

Do your shades function?- Yes, They’re fully functional! I do make stationary/faux shades, as well.

How do I place an order? - You may fill out the quote form, https://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/customromanshades, on the custom roman shades page or message in details on Etsy (copy and paste the form). I will need all of the information on that form to provide a quote. You will be provided a quote and Payment/shipping details in the same email. After you make the payment, that means your order was placed and you will get a paid invoice emailed to you within a couple weeks, normally. I accept Venmo, Paypal, Credit Card (only if paid directly on my website) and check. If you didn’t make a payment, your order will not go into the production line.

What is your timeframe?- Certain months we are busier than others. We tell people 8 weeks max, but there are times it is much faster, by weeks, or slightly longer. But it normally does not go over that 8 week mark, unless there is a backorder of fabric or the customer did not provide their name on the shipping label when sending us the fabric to use. You can follow along for status updates @ sewlovelybykelly.com/production. This is not a list of ALL of our orders… just the ones up next and in production.

What is the quickest way to get in line and place an order? - You can purchase right away, if your order is not very unique, by using the direct order link on my website found here- https://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/shades. You will receive an email within a few days after placing the order, with how much fabric to send us and our address and directions on how to send. You can send it directly from any supplier. If you do not receive an email within one week with instructions, please check with us to be sure we received the order.

Can the customer provide the fabric? - Yes. That’s the nice thing about our shop is we make the shades using any fabric of your choice (given it meets our fabric requirements standards).

I don’t want to supply the fabric, can I purchase fabric from Sew Lovely?- Yes! We supply fabric and sell the fabric on our website. You can let us know which one you’re interested in and we will tack the price on to your order, or you can purchase it on our website. We have a wide range of fabrics for sale.

Are the fabrics for sale on your website good for roman shades? - Most of them are, yes! The only ones that are not great for the shades are the lighter weight linens, which will not have as crisp of folds (tuscany linen etc) Those are best for curtains.

Do you provide samples? - Yes, we sell samples for $10 each (the ones on our website). Samples may take just a couples days to 2 weeks or so to arrive, depending on if we have the sample in stock here. Some samples I have to order from vendors.

Does Sew Lovely supply the liner? - Yes we do! We only use our liner for shades. We provide blackout or light filtering and we can also do thermal lining. Ever shade needs a liner.

Do you sell cordless shades?- Yes, we make corded (budget friendly), cordless and continuous cord chain shades.

Do you do top down shades?- No, we do not do that style as of yet.

How do I measure for roman shades? - We have measuring instructions on the website and some photos. If any questions, you can always send us a photo of your window.

How much depth do I need for inside mounted shades? - About 1 1/2” . If you have only 1” it will work also, but the shade will project a little more.

Do the inside mount shades mount from the sides or top? - They mount from the top and drill right up into the casing. But if you wanted to mount from the sides you may do so with L brackets.

Is your lining material white for the blackout and regular liner? - Yes, white for both.

Do you make shades over 75” in width (side to side)? - No, we only go to about 72” wide. We will do any length (up and down) but the width we only go to about 72”. If your window is wider it will need to be split up into multiple shades.

Can I wash the roman shades? - Only spot wash. No machine wash bc there are dowels inside the shade and the shade is attached to the top wood.

Should I subtract 1/4” off the width for inside mount shade? - Yes, when measuring your window, you’d measure the exact width and then subtract about 1/4” off the width and that’s the number to give me for the measurement. We do not do any subtractions from what you give us.

How many inches should I add on for outside mounted shades? - It depends on your personal preference, but if mounting on the wall above the window, measure at least 4” above the trim and down to sill. This clears the cordlock. You can mount she shades right on your trim or on the wall above the trim. For width, you can make it the exact width of trim, or you can have it extend a bit.

Do outside mount shades provide more blackout coverage?- Yes it provides a bit more than the inside mount option

Does Sew Lovely supply hardware for mounting? - Yes! The shades normally mount easily using just 2 screws! No brackets are required normally. We supply the screws and instructions can be found on our website, here- https://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/installation.

How do the corded shades operate?- The operate just like many standard blinds, by pulling the cords. The cords run up the back side of the shade and to operate the shade, you pull the cords to the right to raise and lock off and to the left to lower the shade.

How do the cordless shades operate? - The cordless shades have a knob at the back bottom of the shade that you pull on to raise and lower. If your window is high, it might be best to get corded shades so you can reach the cords better.

How long is the shade when raised all the way up? - That depends on the type of fabric and length of your window, but it’s usually about 15” or less for a standard window. If the window is very short, the drop might be much smaller.
